Wilton Park Lake, Batley. Photograph taken 1938, it was
constructed during the 1920's, with the central island for
waterfowl.
Bradford Road and a few of Batley's mill chimneys provide
the background. And yes, I do believe a rowing boat can
be seen on the lake.
The tree in the foreground still stands today and provides
shelter during the odd shower.
Paddling Pool, Wilton Park, Batley. This picture was
taken from a postcard, which had been posted to
America in July 1934, the card carries the message ' I
am spending a few days in Yorkshire with my uncle
and cousin. At present, I am sat in the park, it is a
lovely spot'.
The tank on the hillside was presented by the War
Office in 1919, in appreciation of the town's war saving
efforts during WW1.
The tank remained there until the outbreak of WW2,
which I presume, was recycled into another tank. The
lake is to the left of the paddling pool.

shows the original Victorian Tea Room, you can
just see the Bandstand situated above the bridge
to the left.
Wilton Park, Batley picture taken in the early 1990's,
the Victorian Tea Room was destroyed by fire in the
1930's and was replaced by the well known
'Boathouse', which which served at café and
restaurant, unfortunately suffered the same fate in
1998. The land is now an extra car parking facility
which is to be renovated back into a refreshment
complex over the next few years.
